"Are We Any Better?" 11/09/2009
Music: Jets To Brazil - I Typed For Miles
Mood: Happy
Herrow!
I woke up today and strangely I started thinking about my family. No, not Sister, Timineri, Vining, nor Atkin, but the family that abandoned me many odd years ago... the ones that I left behind. I'm not sure if I was waking from a dream that made me think of this, or I was just being nostalgic again. I thought of when the family got rich. My dad and his brothers constantly were fighting: about money, how to manage the business, who was in charge of what... who knows? Whatever it was, they eventually stopped talking for months and years at a time. My cousins and I were very close. Especially Don and I. We all gathered around when we were kids, vowing to never be like our parents. Years gone by and we reunite as young adults. The feud between our families never changed. We then again vow to still never be like our parents. Look at us now. I haven't talked to or seen Don since I moved back. Jennifer has settled down with a family of her own somewhere in SF. Kathy is deployed to who knows where now. Denny resides in AK with his mom. Phi and I pretty much severed our ties after he came out of prison. The rest of my cousins I can't even begin to imagine where they are or what they're doing. As for me, I'm sitting here awaiting another day to carry on my routine. Did we ever become the change we wanted to see? Are we any better than our parents?
This week, I work today and Tues. I'm usually off Thursdays, but I'll be off tomorrow. My schedule got changed because on Thursday there's an important training I need to attend. Go back to work again on Friday. Then I leave Friday night after work to SF to visit and spend the night with Scottie. I meet up with Shaun around noon-ish on Saturday and we're off to LA. We most likely will spend the night in LA so we could hang out and go shopping the next day. I want sushi throughout the trip! Shaun and I have been talking more and more. It'll be fun and I think this is going to work out just dandy.
I now will go have some menudo before I get ready for work. Wootness!
